Havarert seilbåt Magnus Zaremba trenger hjelp

De har gjort Magnus Zaremba seilbart igjen (bare med motor) og imorger plannlegger de å forlate Bergen. Lykke til til dem!

Skipperen på Magnus Zaremba har sendt  meg noen ord som han ville dele med alle intereserte i saken som jeg har tolket til Engelsk i min beste.

 

Magnus looks almost like a sea-going vessel. We launched the basic functions of the ship, and if weather permits, tomorrow or the day after we will sail home. We have functioning motor and a small dinghy with outboard honda 2 hp, a generator, navigation, AIS, VHF radio, navigation lights and all the pumps. We have a liferaft,  Spot and Iridium phone. Only little amount of water poured in during the roll-over, but it was enough to destroy the autopilot, switch box and control panel. There is still a chance to repair the autopilot.

I retrieved all the fittings, castings, fasteners from the mast. Also almost all ropes, but little can be reused. The sails have only minor damages. Bom is ok.

 

Magnus survived the accident much better than me. Certainly I have deserve this harsh lesson, but more on that some other time.

I'm amazed by spontaneity, friendliness and support of so many people. This was a priceless experience. I had no idea that the Magnus’ expedition was followed by so many.

I will soon elaborate more about the accident but for now I would like to say briefly: the roll-over was caused by a wave much higher than the ordinary, which were more than 10 meters, and arriving from the different direction than the storm waves. The second wave turned the boat around the keel. I judged that it might not have been an exception and the situation was life-threatening.
The yacht construction ensured its safety, reduced losses and protected the crew.
