Navigation lights cannot be switched off ?

I've got a Myra 21 from 1973, purchased in Danmark.

When I turn the ignition key, the navigation lights go on automatically (i.e. masthead, stern & both side lights).

There is no seperate button on my control panel to turn these lights off/on, only for the dashboard light.

 

 

I thought there might be a technical fault for these lights always on, but could it be that the navigation lights as supposed to be always on ???

(no such reguirement here in Holland: boats all have a lights on/of switch)

Keep looking, there shoud be a button somewhere. I have never seen a boat with the navigation lights permanently connected before...

Most probably there is a switch somewhere.

Never the less, for a power driven boat it is in accordance with colreg to have all the mentioned lanterns lit when steaming, and switched off when moored and the engine is stopped.

Maybe someone has wired the lights to the ignition switch at some time. If you can't find the switch, you will have to install two. One for all lights to use when sailing, and one for mastlight/anchorlight to use when anchoring...

Yes, seems the wiring for the lights have been connected to the key-switch, perhaps replacing a bad switch-panel that's now gone.

Appears I'll have to do some rewiring, for steaming and anchoring.

Ik heb er een tijd over nagedacht om het zelfde te doen, maar toch maar een schakelaar ertussen gehouden....

Er zijn hier, ook in het Vestlandet, perioden waarbij varen MET navilights kolder is
