Morebas 17 information required

Hi guys, my name is Craig  and I recently brought a Morebas 17 to use  around the coastal waters of Falmouth Cornwall England,  it's been a great boats in the little time I've had it,the Engine it has is a 2000 model Johnson 90hp 2storke, i'm just after some more information on the boat, The specification , is the engine already have too big for it or couldn't go bigger etc? I believe it is made for up to 120 hp. Came from the factory with 60-120 hp.

 

It probably handles more on a calm sea, but I would have reinforced the rear of it first.

wow it can take up to 120hp! It goes very well with the Johson 90hp V4 2storke, plus the other  consideration is the extra weight of the other engines  especially a 4storke!

Yes. Weight is an issue. This boat can start to "jump" with the bow (wobbling up and down?) if it's too rear heavy. Adding smart tabs have helped others to make it run smooth.

 

Personally I like the E-tech engines, but never had one myself

With the weight issues, i don't know the Carrying capacity of the boat? I have heard it can take 8 persons but cannot confirm this, 

 

if I do change the engine I was thinking of going 4storke maybe Yamaha 90hp?

I've seen 85 listed as recommended max.   

A yamaha 90 4-stroke (in norway sold as 80 and 100 hp) is listed at 165 kg,    
which year is your 90hp?   the earlier crossflow engine was 140 something, the later loopers were around 164 IIRC.

Hi Ivar , my Johnson is a 2000 model V4 2storke, I can't remember the weight of the engine?,

but it's more than enough for what we use it for.

the 2000 is a "looper" , so then e.g a F90 should be much extra weight

 

as said earlier , some kind of trim tabs will help with stern lift
