Wiking 21

Hello to all,

I'm sorry to write you in english, my norwegian isn't very good. I'm planning to look at / buy a Wiking 21:

However, I've seen on several internet sites that the engine should not be more than 30 HP,  the one I'm planning to see is 45 HP. Is that OK or too heavy for this boat ?

Greetings,

Alexander

Hilsener,

Alexander

Difficult to say.

We don't know the weight of the engine.

I'm guessing this is not the original engine.

Wild guess is that a modern engine is lighter than an old engine, hp/weight ratio.

If this is a new or at least newer than the one from the 70's, this would cause no problem.

On a snekke like this the speed probably don't increase much if you give her more horsepower.

Besides that, no problem.

Being interested in this boat means you are not a speedhunter. Easy on the throttle, and you don't need to worry about fuel cost.

What is the weight of the original engine, and what is the weight of the new engine?

Google will answer that...

Greetings

The Bird

Thank you very much for your comments. The owner told me that the engine is a "45 hp VW Golf Diesel Motor from 1979".

Indeed, I'm not looking for speed, only for easy boating with wife and kids. My opinion is, when this motor is on the boat since 30 years it should be OK...   What about the price 4.500€ or 49.000 Kr. Does that seem reasonnable ? I'll take a look at it this weekend. It seems in good shape.

Golf diesel,  is it perhaps a self made marine engine ?

Possible, though several companies have been offering fresh water cooling conversion kits for this 4 cylinder 1.5 l engine.

Parts for that engine can be picked from Golf/Passat/Audi 80 1975-1983 as long as it is IDI 1.5 l engine.

That engine is also delivered from VW Industrial Division.

Ok.

But:

It is fine by me if you shoot some gulls.

I hate gulls. They scream, and behave like animals.

When they open their mouths and scream like sick souls, you can look all the way down into their bloody shameless intestines.

If a gull catch a fishhead or intestine or some other shit and flies away with this in his beak, the other gulls throw themselves over him and shall have shall have.

And the result is that gore falls into the sea and sinks, and non of them get any pleasure of the shit.

Gulls don't have citizenship, shall have shall have.

I'm glad I don't know a gull personally, then I had to have some sort of courtesy towards it.

I wouldn't have a gull if you gave me one.

If you want to give me a bird, and I could choose, i would have said: please give me a kingfisher. In a bottle.
