English: Sabb GA = Nightmare

Hello everyone

Now that I finally have my Sabb I started looking for spare parts. What I was not aware of is, that Spares are rare for the GA Type. This I was told from Nordsabb, DK

The manager also told me to get rid of this Nigtmare engine (far too loud, and so on) It would be better for me to exchange my GA into an G Model. He would take the GA and give me an old G.

Now I start to think about this and need your help. Of course this man is right. The GA is louder than the G Model, but really that much????

The second thing is, that my GA has very little working hours because this enigne was in a life boat. Nobody knows what kind of G I will get.

Has nobody here in the forum expierence with the GA?

Greetings

As far as I know, the GA is only used in lifeboats but G is used in almost every small fishing boat so that will give a quite limited access to GA spares unless the manufacturer still have them in stock. By browsing thru the Sabb Netshop, I only found one spare specifically marked GA and that is the cylinderhead.

I have NO experience with the GA very little with G but these engines are very robust and with very basic maintenance will run for decades.... If the sound dosen't bother you, why not use it as long as you can?

I used to have the 2G, and they are very good motors.

But, unless this manager is a very good friend of yours, why will he offer you this deal?

Is it because he sees a potensial in it by selling it again?

I would try to find out what parts are different in the G and GA. And then see if it is obvious that you will need them at all.

And maybe there are only a few parts that differs as well.

I believe the loud sound is caused by dry exhaust? Is there enough space for any kind of silencer?

Good luck

This is, what makes me think too. This Manager might be right but he seems to be also a good salesman. If the spares are rare for the GA, my engine would be very welcome for him. Another Manager from another Company agrees in saying that this engine is like riding a Harley without shock absorbers, but also told me that he would offer this engine to a fisherman for 2000 €.

There will be Space for a Silencer, but the second problem is the sound of the fan. This Engine needs a lot of air, so you cannot insulate him from all sides.

Like I said, if I get a fair offer for changing the GA into a G I will agree, otherwise......

Regards
