Norloch2
Hello again everyone and happy new year from Canada!! Very cold here now (-30 Celsius today) but the days are starting to get a little longer.... And I'm starting to think of projects for the coming boating season. One of the things that the 'Admiral' would really like me to change on our 1989 Princess 35 Fly is the color of the sink/counter in the head. I'm not sure what princess was thinking when they finished the unit in that pink color!!? Anyway, I'd like to change it to simple white and am looking for advice from the forum..... Perhaps someone else has done this already..... Or maybe others have tackled something similar...??? What I've been able to find out is that this appears to be a fiberglass unit and the 'pink' color seems to be gel coat. My first thought was to use Interlux Perfection 2 part paint (which I believe is epoxy based). I'm just a little worried how this will hold up to the typical use of sink. Anyone tried this... Or something else..... Or have other ideas? Evan Quote Link to post
SoBo
Happy new year. You can do something like this. Paint the bottom of the sink / counter. Cut a new top plate. You can use a king starboard plate. Put in a new stainless steel sink. You will get a result something like this. Quote Stell og oppgradering av en gammel dame (Princess Riviera) Link to post
TerjeFjern
This picture is from my boat??? previous owner did this. The bottom part does not look painted. Edited January 8, 2017 by TerjeFjern (see edit history) Quote Link to post

Norloch2
Thanks for the response..... that approach might work. Do you know if the previous owner cut out the top of the counter or just placed the king starboard over the counter. The reason I ask is because there is a 'lip' on the leading edge of the counter that will have to be removed, or ground flush with the counter. Also, the old sink, being integral to the counter, will have to be cut out to make room for the new stainless unit. With these two issues, it might be easier to just cut the top out??? Thanks again for the help, ideas and inspiration!! Evan Quote Link to post
alf-inge
A recent thread discusses the same topic, though on different boats, and in Norwegian: https://baatplassen.no/i/topic/45239-forslag-til-hvordan-pusse-opp-benkeplater/ You might try to put it through Google Translate, and see if it is worth reading. TerjeFjern
The previous owner cut out the top of the counter. Quote Link to post
