Danaxo Startet 8.Juli.2019 Del på Facebook Startet 8.Juli.2019 Hello to everyone. I do not know in this forum, but in other boat forums in Spain, I should pay a round, so... beer for everybody! My name is Daniel and I live in Sandefjord. Lately I´ve been gathering the bravery and determination to accomplish my dream, which is crossing the Atlantic and spending some months in a white sand and blue water island in the Caribbean. But I found a couple problems. 1 - I don´t have a boat 2 - I don´t have experience So I though... why don´t you search for sailors and nice and politely ask if anyone wants to give you their boat?.... No, of course I´m kidding :-P. But what I really thought, was... why don´t you offer to help sailors with the maintenance of their boats so you can learn how to do it when you earn your own boat? So.... here I am, offering my free services to the sailors around Sandefjord´s area with the only payment of teaching me how to sail and maintain a boat. So please, if any of you needs help with their boat (fixing sails, tekka, fiverglass, ropes....), don´t hessitate contact me at 94984616 (call or text). If I have available time (I work monday to friday from 8 to 16), I will help you with pleasure. And since I am here in the right forum, I´d like to ask you for advise. I am considering asking for a loan so I can buy the boat now, and learn how to sail it while I save up money for the trip (maybe a couple years), but of course, it´s not too efficient owning a boat (with all the expenses) and living by rent, so I was considering living in the boat maybe for a year before I start the trip. Now my question is: 1 - Is it possible living in the boat? even in the winter? 2 - I know that Horten has a marina with all the facilities (toilets, showers, laundry, electricity and water) but this is only available from September to may, so... where should I go during may and September? 3 - Is it cheaper than renting a house or is it a waste of money? 4 - Is it any other harbours closer to Sandefjord that has all the facilities (toilets, showers, laundry, electricity and water)? And for last... since I need to save up money to buy the boat. I think it would be a good idea to get an extra job, so... if any of you knows about a job for evenings (after 16:00) or for the weekends... please, let me know (94984616). I´m strong healthy man, not afraid of lifting weight, with forklift licence, C drive license (truck), experience in production, logistics and sales (English or Spanish). Plus, I´m very handy man, and I´m not afraid of learning new jobs. Thanks for the help, and... enjoy the beer ;-) Sitér dette innlegget Link to post
Code0 Svart 9.Juli.2019 Del på Facebook Svart 9.Juli.2019 Hello, welcome to sailing! Free help is always welcome of course, but for a long plan to cruice your own boat across the Atlantic, I would re concider... Lot of boats search for crew for local deliveries / trips and crossings. I dont know your norwegian skills, but if yor read google translate norwegian, check out this fb page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/232166503538296/ there are also several english crew sites, like this one: https://www.crewbay.com/boats/recreational My tip is to get free experience on board boats, either local evenings or a week or four if you have the time. Thanks for the beer! Sitér dette innlegget Link to post
Danaxo Svart 9.Juli.2019 Emnestarter Del på Facebook Svart 9.Juli.2019 Thanks for your answer and advise Code0. That's exactly what I'm trying to do here, I'm trying to get experience before I start my trip in 1,3 or 2 years. Local evenings and weekends I am up to, even I'm saving up holidays to use the time for learning. Don't you think I'll be ready to do the trip if I learn during this time? My point is that an alternative to go a long period of gaining experience, finances and preraring your own boat, you can jump on one of many possibillities of crewing across with an experienced skipper on a well prepaired boat, with a much larger budget for fitting out than what you will be able to put together. I crossed the atlantic (Carebean, St Thomas, Azores, Gib) as skipper when I was 25, scared at times, and very glad we were a full crew on a >60 feet boat. Paid job, not much, but no cost for me. On the other hand, there are examples on young people crossing in 27' sail boats, and live to tell a story. Danaxo Svart 9.Juli.2019 Emnestarter Del på Facebook Svart 9.Juli.2019 Thanks Code0! I'll listen to your advice and I'll wait to have the experience before I cross the Atlantic on my own. I have to wait until 2020 to have enough days of holidays to be able to join one of these trips you mentioned. Meanwhile, I would appreciate if any of you let me know when a crew member is needed around Vestfold area. Also if any of you could solve the other questions I have ? Framtia Svart 9.Juli.2019 Del på Facebook Svart 9.Juli.2019 Contact your local sailclub, they normally have club regattas every week, and typically want more members. So it shold be possible to join as crew on one of the boats. Sitér dette innlegget Framtia på AIS Seiling - den dyreste måten å reise gratis.... Link to post
