English: VHF certificate

In holland I get the VHF basic certificate for using VHF radio for the innlandwaters of the Netherlands. Is this cetificate ok for using in Norway? I moved from NL to Norway so I think it's better to have certificate for Norway.

It depends whether you have the VHF basis certificaat (which I presume you do, since you translate it as "VHF basis certificate") or a SRC certificate. In Norway, you will need the latter.

The VHF basis certificaat does not include DSC class D, which has now become mandatory in coastal waters.

In any case, I would ask: (to me, they were always very helpful  )

Oke,

Thanks for info, had contct with people from Telenor Maritime. 1e they said, sent the papers and request to us, then we will change your certificate to Norsk. Allready bougt the book for gmdss.

Now I get all the stuff back, and they say: only Norsk certificate can be changed!

They are not straight!

Do they now what is right or wrong?

Again,

I still reckon the reason for their rejection is that your certificate (which I still presume is the VHF basis certificaat, correct?) does not correspond to the required SRC certificate since it does not include DSC class D.

Do you btw. speak any Norwegian?

Perhaps it would be easier to close your eyes, put aside the bureaucratic paperwork and simply take the Norwegian test, which, in comparison, is quite rudimentary and relatively cheap.

I wouldn't worry too much.

As a Dutch citizen with a Dutch license you're covered.

I've used my Norwegian SRC on foreign flag vessels for decades. No problem.

since it does not include DSC class D.

You're saying I can't operate my DSC Class A VHF?

It's correct, I have a BASIS certificate, no dsc. But with a certificate after 2000 (something) TELENOR Maritim talking about converting this to DSC, after buy (and read) that pensumhefte.... My cert. is after that date, I read the book, so whats the prob??? They don't say anything about countryorigin of certificate!

The prob is I can't take free time to go to Bergen for exam, and if it was possible, why should I?

But think I have to find a free time to go for exam. In the mean time, I have ask for konsesjon for boat on the callsign of former eier.

And yes, I speak a lit norsk (Boknorsk = blanding Nynorsk/bokmål)... but the guy on the phone was capable enough to speak english.

I wouldn't worry about the norsk.

You already have the qualifications to use VHF so what we do in Norway is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak.

Read the manual, make sure you know how to use it and sail in safety. I don't think you will face any sanctions in Norway if you get into an emergency situation and don't have a strictly valid license.

Etter en hyggelig samtale med sjøfart direktorat har eg nå båtførerbevis.....

Har også tatt VHF prøve hos Telenor i Bergen, 2 feil....så alt er nå Norsk sertifisert!
