Nå er vinnerene kåret, og en Norsk bedrift stakk av med "Innovation og the year award".

Jury, procedure and categories

Each year, the finest names in Europe's boat industry are honored with the "Water Sports Oscars": the international "European Yacht of the Year 2011" title is awarded in four categories, while the "European Powerboat of the Year 2011" prize is presented in six categories. The jury comprises the editors -in-chief and test managers of the eighteen leading yachting and powerboat magazines in Europe. Traditionally both prizes are awarded at the industry reception hosted by Delius Klasing Verlags and Messe Düsseldorf as part of the Boat Show. This year, publisher Konrad Delius and boot project manager Goetz-Ulf Jungmichel invited around 400 guests from the European water sports industry to the prize-giving ceremony.

Criteria

Roughly 100 new yachts reach the market every year in Europe. However, only four shipyards could look forward to winning the title of "European Yacht of the Year" this year. From around 70 candidates the jury chose the five best craft in each category, carrying out extensive tests on each one. They assessed performance, comfort, construction quality, price -performance ratio, design and the unique selling propositions of each candidate. "Performance levels were incredibly high this year. This made our decision very difficult in some cases," said YACHT editor-in-chief Jochen Rieker, summarizing the current results. "We were also impressed with the level of innovation shown by the boat builders and by their readiness to adapt elements from the regatta scene, for example," added the yachting expert.

Bavaria Cruiser 45, Bénéteau Océanis 58, Comet 26, Hanse 445, Sun Odyssey 409.

This year, the innovation award went to: Air Supported Vessel. This remarkable new development from Norwegian company SES Europe is a hull that floats on a cushion of air like a hovercraft and, according to the manufacturer, can achieve fuel savings of up to 30 percent.
