English: Hot bulb

Recommended Posts

Hello Northwich - and welcome to baatplassen.no!

Semi-diesel or hotbulb-engines are not often for sale on the open marked. Primarely because there are not so many of them left in working condition. You may try to follow-up this site --> Finn.no - Motor --- regularily. This is the most used site in Norway for selling boats and boat-engines.

It looks like there are some more hotbulb-engine-lovers in Sweden than in Norway, so you may also try this Swedish site --> blocket.se --- the trouble with this site is that you cannot sort out inboard-motors alone, so all marine-motors, including outboards are advertised in the same column!

I wish you good hunting an Good luck!!

Hello again!

I am sorry.

As much as I would like to help you, but I have absolutely no experience with these type of engines. :nonod: I only know that they make a lot of noise - although, personally I like the somewhat nostalgic sound - and they produce a lot of pounding / vibration, so you should have a sturdy and solid bouildt boat, to have on of these engines aboard.

There i some discussion of semi-diesel in one of the other english topics called - Low-revolution semi-diesel motor - including some really good YouTube-videos of running hot-bulb-engines. You will also find a link to one of Norway's best and informative web-sites Norwegian Semi-Diesel

Good luck to your project!

Thanks anyway.

I will post my question in case anyone can answer. The engine i have found is a 2 stroke ,hot bulb.

The exhaust/ expansion box (water cooled) is on the side of the engine as seem normal. This makes the engine very wide and a tight fit for my boat. I was intending to make a new exhaust/ expansion box (water cooled) with an elbow on it ,so this sat in line with the engine. Making the whole thing narrower. The new one would be no smaller in volume than the origional.

Does anyone know if this would work ,or will it affect the engine?. Thanks in anticipation.

Hello!

I think that you should concider the effect on the scavenging process before exhaust outlet from the engine is modified.

Normally semi diesel engines has an large exhaust silencer bolted directly to the exhaust port(s), and putting a bend and pipe between the silencer and engine might affect the gas flow and combustion process.

Regards

Fiks
