Next step replac the wood. Instead of wood i will use coosa board. This is nothing more that a lot of layers of polyester.
To get the thickness back I use three layers of 12 mm board. the total thickness was 44mm 

First made a cardboard template to figure out the best way to use the plate.
For each coosa board layer it will be fixed by 2 layers of fiberglass and then the last layer as think as it needs to be. Else I would change de engine mounting positions

replaced the wood by 3 layers. it is 45mm thick again. 

The holes for the helm extra wide

Drive holes a little bit smaller than original.     

side panel extra reinforced where the new tab will be mounted

After some sanding ready for a lick of paint
